The husband and wife team of Ori Menashe and Genevieve Gergis who brought us the ever so popular Italian-centric Bestia in the DTLA Arts District has now opened up a new restaurant a few blocks away that focus on Middle Eastern fare called Bavel. Like Bestia, the dishes are crafted for sharing with your table mates. Like Bestia, the service is solid, and the food is delicious.
Don’t come here if you’re on a low-carb diet because you’ll miss out on some really good bread/pita breads/laffa. Must haves for me are the Foie Gras Halva, Lamb Neck Shawarma and the Grilled Shitake Mushrooms.
The space has better aesthetics than Bestia. Though it can get loud inside and in the patio, it’s still a much more pleasant place to dine at than Bestia.
